Hand sanitizers may increase norovirus risk.
- Authors
Vogel, Lauren
- Abstract
The article reports on the threat posed by hand sanitizers in terms of increasing norovirus risk. It references the findings of a survey of 161 long-term care facilities in the U.S. which shows the association between the risk of norovirus and use of hand sanitizers. It also cites the two studies on the alcohol-based hand sanitizers' effectiveness against Clostridium difficle which shows that hands of health care workers may have viable spoors due to overreliance on the sanitizers.
