- Abstract
The article discusses a pilot study to enhance communication skills using synchronous electronic chats combined with task-based instruction (TBI). Synchronous electronic interaction is like face-to-face conversation wherein computer-mediated communication (CMC) takes place in a real-time interaction. On the conducted pilot study regarding the use of the synchronous electronic chats combined with TBI showed that computer-mediated communication using less structure-controlled but more open-ended exchange had a significant impact on the process of language learning. Through the use of an online task-based activities it benefited student since they had to access different on to different functional skills for the development of language proficiency.
