The Influence of Student Race and Student Socioeconomic Status on Economics End-of-Course Test Scores.

- Abstract
From the time end-of-course testing (EOCT) began in Georgia in 2003 until 2007, scores on the economics EOCT were among the lowest test scores. This study examined the school characteristics percentage of students economically disadvantaged, percentage of Asians, and percentage of other minorities to determine if these variables might be used as predictors of the economics EOCT scores in Georgia for the 2005/2006 school year. Percentage of economically disadvantaged and percentage of Asians were found to be statistically significant. Percentage of other minorities was found statistically insignificant by only a slight margin, and therefore its influence on EOCT scores cannot be ignored. Future research on end-of-course testing, including the effect of student poverty and one's race upon student achievement upon end-of-course testing, was recommended.
