- Abstract
The article reports on the debate over informed consent, access to the database, and potential privacy risks associated with an Internet database is affecting the cancer genome project called Cancer Genome Atlas in the United States. The project aims to catalog the genetic mutations associated with cancer based on tumor samples from tissue banks, which requires a signed consent form from donors allowing their genetic information to be made publicly available. This raises the questions about the consent process and the best method for educating donors about the implications of posting their DNA on the Internet.
