- Abstract
This study aims to report the experiences, barriers and difficulties identified in a telemonitoring action carried out within the scope of the "Maternal and Child Oral Health" university extension project. Given the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the action was carried out in the form of telemonitoring to monitor the mother-baby dyad at six months of age. This is a descriptive study of the experience report type. The action was carried out by undergraduate dentistry students and postgraduate students in Multiprofessional Residency in Neonatology. The coverage period used to the action was from September to October 2020, totaling 131 contacts made through telephone contact and using a semi-structured questionnaire to collect data related to maternal and child health in general, oral health care, eating habits and breastfeeding. Of the 388 contacts made in the period, a rate of 33.8% (n = 131) call centers were made. Among the main reasons why it was not possible to make all contacts possible, we highlight the change / exchange of the telephone contact number, the inactivity of the telephone device, coverage area out of reach, activation of the mailbox, unavailability and / or not answering the phone call. The results obtained demonstrate that the extension project made it possible for the community to be reached in the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and proved to be a useful tool in monitoring patients and an effective instrument in preventive care, by passing on specific guidelines and clarification of doubts. In addition, it contributed to the professional and academic improvement of students, by bringing the technical and human spheres closer to the practice of health education. Even with limitations related to the effectiveness of telephone contact, this modality of service made it possible to bring the user and the system closer together, thus guaranteeing the link recommended by the Unified Health System.
