- Authors
Ramkrishna, J.; Meagher, S.; Sepulveda, W.
- Abstract
This article, published in the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, presents a case series of nine instances of acrania, a fatal neural tube defect, detected before 10 weeks of gestation. The authors discuss the ultrasound markers for acrania, including the absence of calvarian bones and disorganized brain tissue. They emphasize the importance of early diagnosis for parents who may choose to terminate the pregnancy, but also note that confirmation of the condition through follow-up scans is necessary for appropriate counseling and decision-making.
