- Abstract
This article analyzes four student protest episodes that broke out when official visits of U.S. representatives to Uruguay between 1958 and 1969. From these events, we intend to contribute to understanding the mechanisms of political radicalization and the study of student protest. To this end, we propose a description of these four episodes, framing them in the context of the Latin American Cold War. This overview allows us, afterward, to focus on student protest to observe the evolution of its repertoire of collective action, which articulates disruptive measures and communication tools in interaction with a multitude of actors, such as university authorities, the government, U.S. representatives, and the media.
