- Abstract
This article presents advances in research results regarding the pedagogical and epistemological vision of the implications of the Escuela Nueva model in Colombia in the light of the contributions of multigrade didactics in rural education, an educational proposal that has gained recognition for its studentcentred pedagogical approach, active learning and its adaptation to rural contexts. The objective is to examine the implementation and results of this Escuela Nueva model in three rural educational institutions in the department of Antioquia that implement the model using multigrade didactics. The method defined for this study is qualitative from the case study in three rural educational institutions focused on the department of Antioquia with great distance to the urban sector. Application of qualitative techniques for diagnosis, documentary analysis, non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Methodological triangulation was established as a strategy for the analysis, which gave an account of the results of the implications of the implementation of the Model in the context of classroom work. The main results show that multigrade didactics is relevant in diverse contexts in small rural communities in both developed and developing countries, and that its implementation has procedural shortcomings that limit the progress of students in comparison with students in urban areas. It is concluded that the model itself is very positive as a strategy, but the realities of development in classroom work are far from what the proposal essentially promotes.
