- Authors
Clemens, Josef
- Abstract
The article discusses the views of Pope Benedict XVI on the modern phenomenon of sport, with an emphasis on soccer. An interview was conducted with the Pope while he was still a Cardinal and theologian in which he considered play as a way to overcome daily life and an activity to return to paradise. The Pope also claimed that play, particularly soccer, compels man to exercise self-discipline so that he may gain control over himself.
