- Abstract
This article focuses on a critical study of the electricity sections of five recent general science textbooks of national reputation in the U.S. This study was carried out in connection with the management of a cooperative teaching experiment conducted by the department of applied electricity of the Technical High School, Providence, Rhode Island. Two senior students in the electrical department of the school were chosen to teach seven general science classes. The students received a minimum of assistance from the regular subject teachers. The work was carefully checked. This study is now being used in modifying the course of study. Five textbooks were evaluated according to a definite set of criteria. It was found that there is an improper use of technical vocabulary in some descriptive passages. It was concluded that the majority of classroom teachers are not well equipped to handle a subject as important as electricity.
