- Abstract
La création du régime enregistré d'épargne-invalidité (REEI) représente une avancée importante dans l'accès des personnes handicapées à la sécurité financière. À compter de 2008, les Canadiens aux prises avec une incapacité grave et prolongée qui ont droit au crédit d'impôt pour personnes handicapées, ou ceux qui en ont la charge, peuvent cotiser jusqu'à 200 000 $ dans un REEI. L'impôt sur le revenu et les gains accumulés est reporté aussi longtemps que les fonds restent dans le régime, et une nouvelle aide généreuse du gouvernement provenant des subventions canadiennes pour l'épargne- invalidité et des bons canadiens pour l'épargne-invalidité pourra s'y ajouter. Les retraits sont partiellement imposables pour le bénéficiaire et, dans la plupart des cas, ils ne modifient aucunement l'admissibilité aux prestations d'invalidité provinciales (en fonction de la province ou du territoire de résidence). Le REEI est appelé à jouer un rôle important, en concomitance avec une stratégie standard axée sur une fiducie pour invalidité, en vue de sécuriser l'avenir financier des personnes handicapées au Canada.
