- Title
THE POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP OF THE BEOWULF AND THE BLICKLING HOMILIES MANUSCRIPTS.
- Authors
HUSSEY, MATTHEW T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the possible literary relationship of the epic poem "Beowulf," and the collection of homilies called the Blickling Homily XVII manuscripts. The codicological relationship between the two manuscripts is explored. The manuscripts' paleographical similarities including the combination of late Anglo-Saxon square minuscule scripts and a late tenth-century hand working with an early eleventh-century hand are noted. The physical structure of the "Beowulf" manuscript and Blickling Homily such as their page sizes, writing grids, layout, and date are discussed.
