- Title
Russia and Algeria: Partners or Competitors?
- Authors
Katz, Mark N.
- Abstract
The article looks at the diplomatic relationship of Russia and Algeria. The connection of two countries is dated way back 1970's to 80's when Russia was the main supplier of arms to Algeria. In 2006, the connection between the two has become tighter as major agreements on Russian arms sales and the settlement of Algeria's debt to Russia is announced. Further, an agreement for the understanding of two gas companies of Russia and Algeria have created fears to European countries for they may collaborate in raising the price of gas. On this note, though, it is said that these two countries have competitive mind set when it comes to natural- gas sphere. Another irritant to their relationship is a negative assessment of a Russian article to the visit of the Russian president to Algeria.
