- Title
Antibacterial immunity: A pinch of salt.
- Authors
Minton, Kirsty
- Abstract
The article informs that according to a research, it was found that salt contributes to cutaneous antibacterial defences. In patients with bacterial skin infections that the Sodium(Na) magnetic resonance imaging and Na spectroscopy showed that salt accumulated in the infected leg and this decreased after anti-biotic treatment. Immune cells entering infected skin are exposed to high salt environment in mice and humans. The local application would be more suitable as therapeutic treatment.
