- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the response by hydrological and soil erosion to abandonment of fields in central inland Portugal. It is said that the development of dense plant cover in the form of scrub communities or restoring forests is the result of cereal plot abandonment. The research revealed that land utilization and plant cover affect hydrological response and erosion yields. Also stated is the role of repeated fires in causing modifications in vegetation and soil physicochemical properties.
