- Abstract
Introduction. Sexually transmitted infections are pathologies originated by more than 30 agents amongst bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Worldwide, they are a common cause for medical attention search, in the woman it produces cervicitis, urethritis, anogenital cancer, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, abortion, threat of preterm delivery, premature delivery, and increase on neonatal mortality, reason why the main objective was to know the incidence of sexually transmitted germs found in the laboratory in women ranging from 15 to 49 years old. Material and methods. Observational study, cross-sectional descriptive, nonstatistical sampling including the results of cultures in the Family Medicine Unit laboratory in women ranging 15 to 29 years old during a six months period between January to June 2014. A revision of the laboratory electronic files was done. The statistical analysis was carried out with the SPSS program version 19 applying descriptive statistics. Results. 40 cultures in total were reviewed for sexually transmitted infections finding in 62.5% positive for Candidaalbicans and in 37.5% of the cases for Gardnerellavaginalis, the ages with the higher frequency of infection were, 34, 44, and 49 years old with 3 positive cases in each. Discussion. The incidence of sexually transmitted germs during a six months period in the Family Medicine Unit was 40.
