- Abstract
The use of bamboo is very old, but little known in Mexico. In Puebla, producers are incorporating bamboos into their farms as part of this diversification. The objective of the study is to know the production systems of Guadua angustifolia Kunth, and Bambusa oldhamii Munro and describe their use by the residents of Ayotoxco de Guerrero, Hueytamalco and Cuetzalan del Progreso in the North Eastern Sierra of Puebla, Mexico. Surveys were applied to small producers and commercial bamboo producers in the area with the help of key informants. Two large bamboo systems were found, the system of commercial plantations, more than half a hectare exclusively for bamboo, management and uses such as wood production, beer, bamboo teas and as food. The family system is present in most of the producers, the backyard is cultivated with corn and beans, the uses are exclusive for repairs in the home. The climatic conditions present in the Sierra Nor Oriental, benefit the development of bamboo cultivation, however, the main problem of cultivation in both systems, is the lack of market, the little trade is incipient and neglected, for this reason They have sought to diversify their farms without success, since there is no productive chain of bamboo in the area.
