- Abstract
Formaldehyde is an important allergen in the German Democratic Republic. The number of occupational skin diseases induced by formaldehyde increased from 4% in 1975 to 16.5% in 1983. Formaldehyde exposure exists not only in connection with occupation, as formaldehyde releasing compounds are also widely used as preservatives for aqueous systems encountered in the domestic environment. This article investigates the potential of the formaldehyde releaser imidazolidinyl urea used in cosmetic preparations to induce allergic sensitization by itself or via formaldehyde.
