- Abstract
Seven patients were presented with a rash at the site of their surgical stoma. Three patients had ileostomies for ulcerative colitis, three had ileal conduits after cystectomy and one had a thoracostomy. All of them were patch-tested but only three showed evidence of contact eczema due to sensitivity. Of these three, one was sensitive to lanolin, one to rubber in the adhesive bag and one to strapping. Removal of the offending factors resulted in clearance of the rash. It was found that revision surgery and psoriasis played an unexpectedly important part in the management of stomal rashes.
