- Title
Manipulating Phagocyte Activity in Alzheimer's Disease.
- Authors
Combs, Colin K.
- Abstract
The author comments on a study by H. Hara et al. on the therapeutic effects of Japanese herb Juze-taiho-to in mice with Alzheimer's disease (AD) published within the issue. According to the author, the study showed that modulating microglial and macrophage behavior can be effective in reducing amyloid plaques in the brain. He asserts that the study offers additional evidence that phagocyte activity can be manipulated in AD. He notes the preference for attenuation of amyloid-specific proinflammatory changes over necessary homeostatic behavior.
