LEFT BEHIND: MIGRANT CHILDREN, SDG 4 AND PANDEMIC RECOVERY.
- Authors
MCCANN, GERARD
- Abstract
This article explores the issue of migrant children being left behind in the context of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and pandemic recovery. It highlights the failure of the SDGs to address poverty, inequality, and the marginalization of vulnerable populations, particularly migrants. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated global inequality, leading to discrimination against migrants and exclusion from public services and education. The author emphasizes the importance of addressing socioeconomic inequality and the specific challenges faced by migrant children in achieving global development goals. The article concludes by emphasizing the need for inclusive and equitable education as a means of addressing these issues, particularly for refugee children who face significant barriers to accessing education. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recognizes the need for equitable provision of education for migrant children but faces challenges in getting governments to acknowledge their responsibilities. The article suggests that political will and investment are necessary to prioritize education for migrant children and create positive migration experiences.
