- Abstract
Umpierrez et al[1] have conducted a post hoc analysis of three prospective, randomized, treat-to-target glucose studies evaluating the glycaemic responses to U-100 glargine insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes who were also taking metformin and a sulphonylurea. Since most patients are not placed on basal insulin until they have failed a combination of non-insulin drugs, this usually means adding prandial insulin in these individuals. Higher IU/kg doses reflect greater insulin resistance, that is, more insulin being required to accomplish the same response.
