- Abstract
The last Ilkhan Abū Saˊīd Bahādur Khan was nominally the ruler under the shadow of amīru’l-omarā Chupan for about ten years after he ascended the throne in 1317. After eliminating Amīr Chupan and taking control of the administration in 1327, his biggest supporters in all matters were Ḡīātuddīn Mohammed, whom he appointed a vizier, and his wife, Baghdād Khātūn. In this period, the Mongol military aristocracy, which Amīr Chupan managed to restrain as a result of great efforts, began to mobilize again. The Mongol amirs were reacting against the domination of Ḡīātuddīn Mohammed and Baghdād Khātūn over the state. As a result, a number of rebellions broke out. Although the rebellions were successfully suppressed, the schisms in the palace heralded the end of the state. Abū Saˊīd died in 1335 during the campaign against the Golden Horde attack. With his death, the Ilkhanid State de facto came to an end. After that the twenty-year period that will pass with turmoil and wars is known as the era of “the shadow khans”, who are descended from Hülegü and have no authority.
