- Abstract
The article offers information on the genetic modification of nitrogen fixing system. The nitrogen fixing bacteria klebsiella pneumoniae grows both anaerobically or aerobically on many fixed nitrogen compounds such as ammonium or amino acids. However, this organism fixes nitrogen only under anaerobic conditions. It is stated that nitrogen fixing genetic studies have been difficult in bacteria azotobacter vinelandii, which grows only aerobically. It is found that nitrogen fixing genes are not tightly clustered in azotobacter. It is noted that studies on the genetics of nitrogen fixation in rhizobium are very difficult because normal nitrogen-fixing ability is expressed by a rhizobium only when it is in the root nodule of its host plant.
