- Abstract
The article outlines the study conducted by the National Research Council's Office of Scientific Personnel on the postdoctoral education in the U.S. Researchers found that most of the scientists took postdoctoral training for very specific purposes and believe that it is essential to their desired goals. It reveals that most of them do not suffer, as is sometimes charged, from the perennial syndrome but are anxious to get their postdoctoral work over with and proceed with their careers. The study serves as a launching pad for many distinguished careers in science and some of these scientists include Jacques Monod and James D. Watson.
