- Authors
Knotts, Rose; Richards, Tom
- Abstract
The article focuses on various aspects of computer fraud and the management and security of computerized information systems of businesses. Studies have been completed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the American Bankers Association, and the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which acknowledge the rapid growth and profitability of computer crimes. In contrast to armed bank robbery, theft by computer is more lucrative, much safer, and carries a lesser punishment. it is predicted that computer crime will increase more rapidly than the methods that detect and thwart the crimes. The potential for creating serious management issues for all organizations is mentioned. Sixteen percent of the AICPA's computer fraud cases exceed $100,000 in worth.
