- Title
Nosocomial Infection, the Deficit Reduction Act, and Incentives for Hospitals.
- Authors
Graves, Nicholas; McGowan Jr., John e.
- Abstract
The article discusses nosocomial infections, examining the implications of a law which mandates that as of October 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will cease to reimburse hospitals for costs related to certain nosocomial infections. The law came about due to regulators who felt such conditions are reasonably preventable, the article indicates. Other topics include perceptions that hospitals fail to implement infection control measures and patients who are so fragile that infection cannot be stopped.
