- Abstract
The article reports on research which was done in an effort to increase understanding of the genetic and environmental risk factors of post traumatic stress disorder syndrome, their interaction in the development of the syndrome by gene-environment interactions of child abuse, the level of non-child abuse trauma exposure, and genetic polymorphisms at the stress related gene. The research consisted of a cross sectional study which examined genetic and psychological risk factors in 900 nonpsychiatric clinic patients with and without significant levels of child abuse. Researchers found that level of child abuse and non-child abuse trauma each separately predicted the level of adult post traumatic stress disorder and that polymorphisms interacted with the environmental factors.
