- Title
Smoking and Type 2 Diabetes.
- Authors

- Abstract
This editorial comments on a study in this issue which showed a link between active cigarette smoking and type 2 diabetes. The authors say the evidence of causality is enough reason to aggressively pursue smoking cessation worldwide. The number of smokers has decreased in high-income countries but is expected to double in low- and middle-income countries. Since cigarettes may contribute to diabetes and diabetes often leads to heart disease, the number of sick patients could be reduced.
