Prevalence of obesity among the majority of Americans; Associations between obesity and increased hypertension, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, and other diseases; Discussion of findings by the Framingham Heart Study indicating a strong link between obesity and the development of heart failure; Public health implications of the findings; Recommendation that obesity be recognized as a risk factor for atrial fibrillation.
