- Title
Inspiratory preload obliteration may injure lungs via cyclical "on-off" vascular flow.
- Authors
Katira, B. H.; Kuebler, W. M.; Kavanagh, B. P.
- Abstract
The paper examines the possible ways by which pulmonary vasculature can affect the development of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI). Topics covered include role of the pulmonary endothelium in the initiation or propagation of injury, how increased microvascular permeability and hydrostatic pressure contribute to the associated edema, and potential impact on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
