- Abstract
At Suny Oneonta, a four year liberal arts college, service learning is increasingly being incorporated into course curricula. Since receiving a grant in 1994 from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the college has developed numerous nationally recognized and replicated collegewide service learning programs through its Center for Social Responsibility and Community. Service learning experiences are those that include opportunities for students to apply knowledge and test skills acquired in classes, and develop new skills, through their participation in a community-based project. The hallmarks of service learning are that the experience is preplanned and students analyze and reflect on what they have learned.
