- Abstract
The article cites several clinical trials focused on ovarian cancer in the U.S. In the developed world, epithelial ovarian carcinoma is the leading cause of death from gynecologic malignancies. In 2005, it has been estimated that in the U.S., 22,200 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 16,210 women will die from the disease. Through the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-sponsored Clinical Trials Cooperative Groups, such as the GOG, NCI-designated Cancer Centers, and NCI-sponsored consortia, there is an extensive network of groups conducting phase I and II trials of new agents and new combination in ovarian cancer.
