A criticism is provided on the poem "Spelt from Sibyl's Leaves" by the 19th century English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. It discusses the impact that the phonograph, invented by Thomas Edison, had on his poetry, including in regard to Hopkins' perspective on the relationship between sound and poetry and the depiction of phonograph's cylinders within the aforementioned poem.
