- Abstract
The article offers information on the languages of silence in Dacia Maraini and Roberto Faenza's "La lunga vita di Marianna Ucrìa." It is posed that after the publication of this novel in 1990 it was adapted for both stage and screen. The request made by the Teatro Stabile in Catania, Italy prompted Maraini to write a dramatic version of her novel and with Maraini as dialogue consultant Faenza proceeded to create the film "Marianna Ucrìa." It is mentioned that although the novel, play, and the film version show the associations between language and silence in the life of Marianna they all make reading, speaking, and writing focal to her liberation from an oppressive dominant environment.
