- Abstract
A factorial experiment were conducted at the experiments farm of Field Crops, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad the during growth season of 2011-2012. This study was aimed the contribution of the main stem and the primary tillers in the number of spikes and the umber of grains of three varieties under the influence of five seed rates. Treatment were distributed in actorial experiment within Randomized Complete Black Design (RCBD) with three replicates and five seeding rates (60 - 80 - 100 - 120 - 140 kg.ha) and three varieties (Al- Iraq¡Al - Fatih, Tahhadi). The results owed that there were significant differences between two factors of the study and their interaction on all the characteristics of the study during the growth season. The main effect of the primary tillers was to give the highest contribution rate of 52% compared to the main stem of 48% Number of spikes in the main stem and primary tillers within all characteristics. Concerning seeding rate, the largest increase was recorded at the seeding rate of 60 kg.ha, which was 225.67 square meters. Number of spikes main stem compared to other to seed rates. While the seeding rate of 80 kg. ha gave the highest average number of grains in the spike of the main stem, reaching 52.16 spike. Seed compared to other seed rates. As for the cultivars, the variety was Tahhadi to giving the highest average number spikes in the main stem and primary tillers. (194.40, 215.33) spikes square meter respectively, compared to other varieties. It is concluded that the increase or decrease in seeding rate may affect or not affect after 100 kg. ha. So, we recommend adopting, while the total share of the contribution of the primary tillers within all the attributes exceeds the contribution of the main stem. This is an important indicator and has an effective effect in the final outcome, and the results of the study of the existence of a relationship of positive correlation between all high moral qualities within two factors of study.
