- Abstract
This article explores the challenges of recruiting underrepresented populations for research studies, with a specific focus on a study on Parkinson's disease. Despite regulations requiring the inclusion of diverse participants, recruiting individuals from underrepresented groups remains difficult. The study used a comprehensive dashboard to track barriers to research participation in real time and found that 230 potential participants were unable to join due to various barriers. The study aims to provide valuable data to improve recruitment methods and increase the participation of underrepresented groups in research. The text categorizes barriers to recruitment in Parkinson's disease research, including language barriers, digital access barriers, and barriers related to cognitive and physical health. Mistrust was mentioned less frequently. Infrastructure barriers and recruiter characteristics were the most commonly cited barriers. The study emphasizes the need for further research to address these barriers and promote health equity in research.
