- Abstract
An analysis is presented for the pressure distribution, carried load and friction coefficient of an abnormal hydrodynamic step bearing with the artificial boundary slippage designed at the stationary surface in the bearing inlet zone, where the inlet lubricating film thickness is lower than the outlet lubricating film thickness. The condition for the formation of this bearing as well as the optimal working condition for this bearing are obtained. It was found out that significant pressures and pronounced load-carrying capacities can be generated in this bearing, when the step size of the bearing is sufficiently small; However, for an over large step size, the load-carrying capacity of this bearing vanishes. This bearing also has the advantages of low friction coefficient and energy conservation.
