- Abstract
The article discusses the emergence of domestic tourism in the English Lake District from 1725 to 1787, focusing on the print trade. It particularly comments on the literary exchanges of coteries of landowning gentlemen. Several works are examined including "A Tour Thro’ the Whole Island of Great Britain," by Daniel Defoe. Travel writers Reverend John Dalton and Reverend John Brown are also explored.
