- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the association between familial occurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and new-onset AF beyond established risk factors. Participants who were aged at least 30 years and free of AF were identified from the Framingham Heart Study. Symptoms and findings that suggested cardiovascular disease were ascertained based on the medical histories and physical examinations of participants. The researchers found an association between familial AF and an increased risk of AF.
