- Title
Consumer genetics and addiction susceptibility testing-just what the consumer ordered.
- Authors
Saunders, Ruth; Ashcroft, Richard E.
- Abstract
The authors comment on a study by Mathews and colleagues which proposed putting restrictions on the phenomenon of direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testing. However, the authors argue against putting restriction on DTC. They opine that long-term impact of DTC genetic testing for addiction liability should be studied both among consumers who receive the results as part of a general testing service and those who seek DTC testing following a diagnosis of an addiction-related dependency.
