- Authors
Cox, Sharon; Notley, Caitlin
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of debates in the scientific community and the need for a space to explore broader ideas and theories. The Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco-European (SRNT-E) conference held its first debate in 2023, with the topic of "Is nicotine use rational?" The debate followed the Oxford Union-style debating etiquette, with respect for different views and no interruptions. The audience was evenly divided at the beginning, but there was a slight shift in opinion towards the end, with a majority view that nicotine use is not rational. The article invites readers to engage with the debate and share their comments.
