- Abstract
This research presents a qualitative study based on individual and group interviews, discussion groups, and document analysis that inquired about school principal's and administrators tasks around curricular changes in the elementary school level. The inquiry emphasis was about their decisions made on teaching. It was necessary to reconstruct the historical dynamic through which Tierra del Fuego's (Ushuaia) educational system was constituted. Although at first it was considered that the historic aspect was secondary to the contemporary aspect, the former acquired such importance that it caused a turn in the original proposal. As a result two studies can be clearly distinguished: One that is centred on the historic dimension (Study 1) and another one centred on the contemporary aspect (Study 2). One peculiarity of this investigation is the incorporation of teachers in training in the activities of Study 1. Even though Study 2 requires new elaborations, it can be said as a conclusion that it's decisive to inscribe the decision making of contemporary school principals in a historic retrospective. This will help us see the logics that were/are decisive in such decision making and directed their work; one that's marked by continuities and changes in a scenery of vertiginous demographic growth and personal rotation.
