- Title
"Lady Tiger in a Tea Gown": Decadence, Kitsch, and Faulkner's Femme Fatale.
- Authors
TROMLY, LUCAS
- Abstract
This article discusses American author William Faulkner's use of the femme fatale character in many of his novels and poetry. Faulkner's femme fatale is depicted as a decadent, exotic seductress, especially in "A Green Bough," "Soldier's Pay," "Flags in the Dust," and "The Sound and the Fury." Although appearing to be decadent, Faulkner's femme fatales also possess psychological depth and nuance. They also appear as sexual threats to patriarchal order and as vulgar society matrons. The article also discusses the use of the femme fatale character in general and the ways it has been used in literature.
