- Abstract
Background: Pyodermas are considered within the group of diseases produced by a straight damage mechanism; impetigo is the most frequent of all. Non-bullous impetigo can be defined as a superficial bacterial infection. Epidemiologically, overcrowding, low socioeconomic status, living in warm regions with tropical weather and Afro-American race are common risk factors for development of Streptococcus pyogenes; the opposite characteristics are related to development of Staphylococcus aureus. We didn't find any precedent studies to this about distribution of the causal agent in non-bullous impetigo, or its antimicrobial in vitro sensitivity. Objective: To determine the most frequent causal agents in the etiology of secondary impetigo in patients from Centro Dermatológico Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua, and their antibiotic sensitivity. Patients and method: During 12 months, 106 patients diagnosed with non-bullous impetigo were analyzed. Socio-demographic characteristics were determined, and culture from each sample was made, in order to develop etiologic agents. Results: The main agent was Staphylococcus aureus in 64% of the cases, followed by Streptococcus pyogenes in 13%. Antibiogram showed that the principal antibiotics with high levels of resistance were benzylpenicillin, and dicloxacillin for the staphylococcus group, no resistant strains to penicillin were found in the group of the streptococcus.
