- Title
Safer way to make human stem-like cells revealed.
- Abstract
The article reports on the study of Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University in Japan for making human skin cells behave like behave like embryonic stem cells so that it does not use a cancer causing agent. It relates that Yamanaka has reported making pluripotent cells, which are cells that can turn into any of the roughly 220 cell types in the body by using retroviruses to carry four genes into human skin cells. The four genes reprogrammed the cells into a state similar to that of cells in the early embryo.
