- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between insurance application inconvenience and social benefits claims. It notes that application inconvenience is one common explanation why several individuals do not enjoy their social benefits. It examines this reason through a cross-state variation in administrative changes which made applying for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits more convenient. It notes that it was found out that explanation of phone- and Internet-based claiming did not create an appreciable effect on overall UI take-up. It suggests that minimizing application barriers only is not an efficient method for increasing program participation.
