- Authors

- Abstract
Given the increased prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the U.S. population, this study identified the influences upon rehabilitation professionals to place persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in jobs. The Rehabilitation Professional Survey-H IV/AIDS, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, was completed by 156 public rehabilitation placement professionals. Participants identified eight outcomes of placement, three groups of persons influencing placement decisions, and seven impediments to placement. Overall, the findings suggest that public rehabilitation placement professionals perceive the placement of PLWHA as beneficial. However, their belief was influenced by (a) consumer noncompliance with prescribed medication, (b) workplace discrimination toward PLWHA, (c) employers beliefs toward PLWHA, and (d) impediments to, rather than resources for, placement.
