An essay is presented which focuses on parchment barriers and preambles in constitutions. It discusses the rationale for writing down constitutional understanding as viewed by lawyers. It examines the difference between preambles and constitutions by considering the legal status of a preamble. It also explores the relationships between the presumptive ends of a constitution and the particular means that enable the attainment of those ends.
