- Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of Intense pulsed light (IPL) combined with Microneedles (MN) for the treatment of papular acne in a retrospective manner. Methods Seventy cases of patients with papular acne were selected from January 2017 to December 2019. Grouping was made based on the treatment plans recorded in patients' medical histories: group A (22 patients) who received treatment with intense pulsed light only; group B (20 patients), who received treatment with microneedles only; and group C (28 patients), who received a combination treatment (IPL+MN). All of the 3 groups had the same amount of treatment sessions, 6 sessions (for group C 3 times of MN and 3 times of IPL, which were performed alternately), the treatment interval was 2 to 3 weeks. After the end of the course of treatment, the improvement of skin lesions in all 3 groups was observed, and the treatment effect and adverse reactions were compared. Results After 6 treatments, the number of lesions decreased in all of the groups, but the best results were seen in group C. The effectiveness rate of group A was 45.4% (10/22), the effectiveness rate of group B was 40.0% (8/20), the effectiveness rate of group C was 78.6% (22/28), and the difference between group C and group A and B was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The combination of IPL with MN in the treatment of papular acne has definite curative effect, is minimally invasive, has fewer adverse effects and huge potentiality.
